Costituito da una cassa in acciaio contenente un rotore al quale sono applicati gli utensili. La loro rapida rotazione proietta il materiale verso le contro-lame, sminuzzandolo.
Il fondo della macchina è provvisto di una griglia calibratrice posizionata ad una opportuna distanza dal rotore. Tale griglia rilascia solo il materiale di dimensione voluta.
